Senate Hall of Shame

Once every generation, comes a legislature. A legislature seemingly so bereft of integrity and honesty that even the most jaded of voters realizes that action must be taken. Such a legislature was unmasked on Wednesday, April 28, 1999 when 14 of 25 senators voted against the confirmation of state Attorney General Margery Bronster.

Their action instantly crystallized all that has been wrong with the state of Hawaii for the last twenty years - Greed, Hubris, and Arrogance. Each of the 14 senators apparently made the nomination a litmus test focusing on one issue instead of the totality of her service.

But all is not lost, the very thing that they were trying to protect, will in the end, bring them down. These legislators are counting on the passage of time to cloud the eyes of the voters. However, the delaying tactics of the Bishop Estate trustees (now removed) will ensure that this issue will be in the forefront for years to come. We will have our daily reminder, just as the sun rises each day, courtesy of the former trustees and their lawyers.

And when the time comes to vote, we will apply the same litmus test standard that they applied to Attorney General Bronster, and we will remove them all and replace them with TRUE DEMOCRATS.
